Crytek Is Excited About The Wii U

Crytek founder Avni Yerli and director of global business development Carl Jones have both expressed excitement about the Wii U and its processing power in an interview with gamesindustry.biz.

Crytek has been working with Wii U development kits and Yerli says that the team in Nottingham is, "very happy with the tests on the dev kits and they're excited about it."

Crytek is a developer known for pushing the technical and visual boundaries of its games regardless of where they appear, so it's exciting to hear that they have been impressed by the Wii U.

We're not sure what Crytek's Wii U plans entail, nor are they discussed in detail in the interview, but you can bet that whatever it is, it will be very pretty.

  • Still, I would find it hard to believe the wii u will have more processing power than a 360 or ps3, let alone a PC.
  • I'm intrigued as well.

  • It seems a lot of developers are.
  • I just hope more BIG name developers pump out some awesome games for the Wii U. Nintendo deserves it.
  • Too bad I've lost my faith in Nintendo's home consoles.
  • This is the kind of support Nintendo needs if they want to bring back faith to the hardcore masses. That said, I am more intrigued by what Rockstar can do on the WiiU, than what Crytek has to offer.
  • If nintendo brings some good games to the console and gives me a reason to use it over my PS3, I'm sold
  • Every so often I hear that "Nintendo has never been able to keep up to the competition graphically". People seem to forget Nintendo’s history before the Wii. Yes the Wii has less horsepower than the 360 or PS3, but the NES was more powerful than the Atari 7800, the Super Nintendo was (arguably) more powerful than the Sega Genesis (I owned both so no bias), the Nintendo 64 was more powerful than the Sega Saturn or the Sony PlayStation, and the GameCube was more powerful than the PS2. Nintendo very well may have made the leap over the PS3 and Xbox 360 with the WiiU.
  • This is great. I'm really optimistic. But, still....... It sickens me to think of how 360 PS3 and PC fanboys will trash this.
  • crytek aint the only 1
its do time for a new system
sony ps3 and they 10 year system
    funny
my ps3 60gb 1st gen only lasted 3 years before it went nightnight
then i got the "slim" what a disapointment
talking about the ps3 slim being cheap in everyway
from hardware through signal taveling through hdmi wire to graphics on my 1080p screen
good to see microsoft fixed the red ring problem for 360 elite system
i do agree i should have been more clear
    sorry everyone
    by the way
    WHATS A BLOG!
  • Well if Nintendo supports 3rd party devs (and vice versa) and the games they produce, I'm pretty sure the Wii U will do better than its predecessor.
  • Didn't these guys also express excitement about the controller? They must be Nintendo fans. Hopefully they can bring us some great games.

  • They're going to express excitement until Microsoft or Sony announces their new console. The Wii U is a stopgap. It'll be half a generation behind the next Xbox or PS.
  • I can't wait to see what they have in store for the Wii U.....ugghhh!!  I hate saying that name!!!

  • That's cool I guess. But this hype won't last. Sony and Microsoft have something up their sleeves too.

  • The WiiU is able to make games like Battlefield 3 right now so I know there not just going to be "slightly" better than the PS3 and 360. So I think there going to blow people away. I just hope they have the games to back it up unlike they did for the 3DS. Developers like Crytek have all spoken highly of it so I hope it dose great.
  • Of course the Wii U is more powerful then the current console but once the new xbox comes and the PS4 it will once again by by far the weakest console
  • Still not sure what to think of the Wii-U myself. I'm interested to see what developers are going to do with the controller or if it will a cumbersome mess similar to the Wiimote. Time will tell how this all plays out.

  • If nintendo fixes the problem with the control connectivity, which sounds like cryteck has it figured out the wii u will most likely be the 360 of next generation where the 3rd party games are optomized for its power just like the 360 is. It is also easy to code for from what ive read. Publishers want to make money, if there is a possibility to sell an extra million on it then they will develope for it.
  • so considering these guys are supposedly in possession of the next xbox this is good. Also, to all you sheep out there the next round of consoles arent expected to be no more powerful than the 'U. its all gonna be about ai and playability which the 'U has in spades it seems.
