The lights are on
This week we're playing Halo: Combat Evolved, the Xbox launch title that changed everything we know about life and planet Earth forever. That may be a bit of an exaggeration, but the original Halo did work wonders for the console first-person shooter scene. We check out the single player, shoot each other up in some multiplayer and realize that, yes, maybe the pistol was slightly overpowered.
It's Andrew Reiner, Joe Juba, Jeff Cork and me, the new guy named Kyle. Check out the video to hear my very first recorded words in the Game Informer offices, and be sure to stick out around for Replay Roulette.
Email the author Kyle Hilliard, or follow on Twitter, Google+, Facebook, and Game Informer.
Man, trial by fire for the new guy.
Corkteese is the best name ever.
What's Admiral Hackett doing in brute force? hahaha
I have it on the PC and I agree it's a sweet game but unfotunately i never finished it :/
It was given to me but my PC couldn't handle it so when I eventually got my own PC I decided to play it but eventually stuck and never played it again :|
This replay has me stoked for anniversary.
Welcome to GI, Mr Hilliard. I hope you can withstand the constant taunting because you're the new guy.
Ah, my dream Replay--Halo! What more needs to be said besides the fact that this is one of the greatest video games of all time?
I remember being hyped up for Brute Force because of the "Halo killer" thing. Then I played it, and it was....meh. It wasn't a terrible game for its time, but it wasn't great, either. I got bored after playing through most of it and never bothered to finish it.
Ah yes, the only Halo game I actually enjoyed playing. Way too many drunken nights of Klan Wars gaming on the PC version and LAN parties on the Xbox version.
I fear the unknown. That is why I hate Change... YOU ARE A CHANGE! It is strange, but you don't noticed the salty grizzled speak of GI veterans until you hear a GI noob. I would sound that way too, son.
I've been expecting this replay for a long time now. Glad to see everyone enjoyed it and looks like Kyle still has some skill in him, don't worry man give it a few months maybe a year and you'll be as bad at playing games as the rest of the GI staff lol. Seriously though I remember when both those games came out. Especially cause they both had books to go with them to provide story. Ah the days when Xbox had games release with books being written to provide the story lol
This was weird - I mean, I figured you guys would've done this closer to the release of the Anniversary edition. Is it coming out soon?
Also, I'm biased because I'm currently playing through it for pure curiosities' sake, but HOW COULD YOU NOT HAVE "ROULETTED" ONI? Y'know, that PS2 launch game Bungie did - the last game they did before Halo (although the studio who did Oni was Bungie Chicago, and the Washington one did Halo)? Brute Force was interesting to look at too, I guess. But Halo and Oni should go together. It's astounding how awkward the controls in Oni are (although, oddly, comparably to Cavia's later Ghost in the Shell game for PS2), and how much better the controls are in Halo. Really, really weird.
So I guess what I'm saying is that Oni would be a fun game to Replay Roulette sometime:)
Oh man, you guys just got me excited for Anniversary. I replayed the first Halo a couple years ago and it still is tons of fun. Plus the soundtrack is absolutely stellar.
My memories of Brute Force consist of playing it for about ten minutes at a friends house, realizing it sucked, then putting Halo back in.
Oh, and Kyle, you did a great job no matter how much those other clowns bust your balls.
welcome to the **** kyle
So many great memories with Halo, fun replay guys.
Plasma pistol is based on an eneregy pistol from Marathon.
Great Replay episode. I played through the first Halo so many times, beating it on Legendary alone. The second Halo was impossible to complete alone on Legendary.
The second game looked ok. I prefer Halo.
hehehe XD lol.. genitals XDDD
but its all good fun when you get some friends together or just people that needs to re-play this game.
and saying that I myself still have an ancient original xbox.. and as do many other gamers like you guys and thus reading this ( might have ) its still is a great game... its just sometimes people want to see the series to evolve to something based on this game , but "better" but its not going to happen.. once the classic game of Halo:CE was made. so yeah.
It's amazing to see the difference in Blood Gulch from then to Hemorrhage now.
