Sony Pegs Vita Battery Life At Three To Five Hours

Given the relative power of the PlayStation Vita compared to other handheld gaming devices, one of the biggest questions about the system has been its battery life. Now we have an official estimate.

Sony has revealed that the Vita will run for between three and five hours on a single charge while playing games. This estimate is minus any bonus features such as bluetooth or a network connection -- things that will likely drain the battery much faster.

Sony also said that the handheld will be able to play video for five hours and music for nine.

So three to five hours of game time (if you're not doing anything else). Is that enough for your handheld gaming needs or are you going to hold out for an upgraded model with better battery life?

  • It's not so portable now is it?
  • Can anyone say Game Gear?
  • That's longer than my phone would last if I played games on it and it doesn't do the crazy graphics and have real buttons like the Vita, so it doesn't really bother me too much. How long does the 3DS last?
  • can i duct tape like fifty batteries together? will that help? lol
  • Can't the 3DS do that with 3D mode on

  • Oh great, it is as bad as the 3DS. Small battery life is the bane of everything portable.
  • Still getting it!

  • How about on standby?

  • Nice, now this should shut everyone up about the 3DS battery life being a catastrophe to gaming. Seriously guys, 5 hours is a while, my iPhone lasts about as long playing a graphic intensive game.
  • *** the 3DS can only play *** graphics from that look like the GAMECUBES with 3 to 4 hour, so *** the vitas battery realy beter since it can play beter graphics for bout the same an a lil bit more.
  • I can understand a lil thing like a Vita with so much power has to pull a lot of juice so the charge time is eh reasonable lets say that.If there is a upgraded power version for the same price as the WiFi model I'll buy that if not I'll just get this not that much of a prob to me.

  • I will still buy it, considering I never play a handheld in public so I can just bring the cord whereveer im going. But Nyko will make a battery for it just like they did with the 3DS and then ittl be 7-8 hours, that sounds good.

  • Good enough for me.

  • That's just not enough for a handheld. With the sting of the 3DS launch still in my pocket, I am simply not going to invest in the Vita.
  • that isn't that bad, considering the hardware

  • Truth is, many of us don't play portable games much longer than 3 hrs at a time anyway. I didn't freak out when they announced the battery life for 3DS and I'm not gonna freak out about the Vita's either. When I'm at home, I usually play with my 3DS plugged in, so I don't give a poop.
  • well i would only play 1-2 hours on a long trip so this is perfect.

  • i could care less. i usually play my PSP plugged in mostly whenever i'm at home and make sure it's fully charged before i leave the house. if i'm going on a long trip, i'd rather sleep.

  • Now Sony drones can't say it's better than the 3DS battery life because you can you can increase it's life by truning the 3D and wireless signal off. So which handhald is better?...... Not Vita!
