The Ladies Can Be A Pro In NHL 12, Too

by Matt Bertz on Sep 13, 2011 at 09:33 AM

After years of being forced to suit up as dudes with moustaches and mullets, female fans of EA Sports' NHL series can lace up the skates in their own skin.

Accoding to the Global & Mail, the ladies can thank young Lexi Peters, 14, of Buffalo, NY. Discontented by the fact that her brother could create his likeness for use in the game and she couldn't, young Lexi wrote an impassioned letter to then EA Sports president Peter Moore urging his company to properly represent the fairer sex. Before leaving his post at EA Sports to become the COO of Electronic Arts, Moore in turn kicked the request down to producer David Littman, who told his team, "We gotta get this girl in the game, and there are probably other girls like her that want to create their own female players."

Adding women to the game makes sense given the rise of women's hockey in the collegiate and international ranks. Now, ladies can take the ice in both the Be A Pro and EASHL modes, too. Way to go Lexi!
