The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Lasts 50 To 100 Hours

When I saw Skyward Sword for October's Game Informer cover story, Nintendo strongly hinted to me that this would be the biggest Zelda game ever. Today at the publisher's pre-Tokyo Game Show press conference, they revealed just how big they're thinking.

During the conference, legendary Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto talked about the upcoming Zelda title while a montage of gameplay clips played. Miyamoto revealed that a team of 100 developers at Nintendo have been working on this game for over five years. The grand sum of all that work? Miyamoto estimates that the final game will last players between 50 and 100 hours.

The footage showed off some rather crazy looking boss battles against huge creatures, giving off a Shadow of the Colossus vibe. Miyamoto revealed that upon completion of the 50-100 hour quest, players will be able to relive those confrontations in a boss rush mode.

Nintendo showed off a new trailer during the press conference, and we'll post that here as soon as it's available to us.

  • It seems like they're actually giving us a reason to pull the Wii out from the back of the closet for a while.
  • Holy...what? That's quite a hefty playtime for an adventure game.
  • YEAH!!! I generally dislike long games, but long Zelda games are awesome. Glad it will be bigger than Twilight Princess.
  • Whoa, this might be right behind Skyrim in playtime.
  • That is really awesome, I am definitely considering getting a Wii for this game. If the boss battles are anywhere near as epic as SoC battles, no doubt this game will rank among the best.
  • Niceeeeeeeeeeeeee.
  • I haven't seen anything about this game that says it will be anything but epic. It's getting harder and harder to wait

  • That's a lotta game... but too bad my Wii died a few weeks ago
  • Oh wow thats a lot but not as much time I invested in Persona 3 lol, from what their saying 50 to 100 hours might take me a while especially since im back in school now >.>

  • Knowing Miyamoto and how long it takes me to beat his games first time around that may be like a 250+ hour game for me haha.

  • That is a pretty wide margin of error, but it looks like this game will finally be able to compete with the expansiveness of A Link to the Past.
  • Man 100 hours? This game will definitely last me at least 3 months. Put that with Skyrim and I can kiss my social life good bye.
  • All of my life i have been wanting a game like this, excitement beyond belief

  • 100 hours of Zelda bliss here I come!!!!!

  • You know why it says 50-100 hours? Because. 50 Means you play well and don't die often. 100 means 50 extra hours in rage mode from all the puzzles and pure diffucultness or just because we suck...well that's how it was in OoT.
  • Holy crap!!! This and Elder Scrolls is going to consume the remainder of my year.

  • This game is going to be epic, especially when you throw a soundtrack in where you can listen to things other than OoT music on the go, and a gold wii remote.

  • Well, I will most likely fall into the 100 hour category, as I play Zelda games until I hit the 100% completion mark. I can't wait for November...
  • 50 to 100 hrs long...hmmmmm ill do it in 20! all jokes aside thats a pretty long game. and for that i thank you

  • That's quite the range there.
