Monster Hunter 4 Announced For 3DS

by Phil Kollar on Sep 12, 2011 at 06:15 PM

Previously we heard reports that Capcom would announced Monster Hunter 3G for the 3DS at Nintendo's pre-Tokyo Game Show press conference. Those rumors came true, but Capcom also came packing another unexpected Monster Hunter announcement.

In addition to 3G, Capcom revealed the existence of Monster Hunter 4 and announced it as a 3DS title. It's currently unclear if this new entry in the popular series will be exclusive to the 3DS or available on other platforms such as the Wii U or Sony's upcoming Vita handheld. If it is exclusive, even for a short period of time, that will be a major victory for Nintendo which will surely bump the handheld's sales in Japan.

A brief trailer for Monster Hunter 4 was shown at the press conference, which featured a character running away from one of the series' trademark giant creatures. The gameplay appeared to be slightly faster, with more climbing around on the environment and eventually even jumping onto the monster's back to attack.

We've got a crew out in Tokyo for TGS this week, so we'll be scouring for any new Monster Hunter 4 details and reporting them as they pop up.
