The lights are on
In our October issue of Game Informer, we spend a whole lot of time talking about Zelda's past and its near future with Skyward Sword. But given the opportunity to talk with legendary creator Eiji Aonuma for the story, I couldn't help but ask him a little bit about what he has planned for after Skyward Sword.
Talking about Zelda for Wii U first, Aonuma reiterated what I had been told previously about the Zelda HD demo shown at this year's E3: This is not necessarily what the first Zelda game for the Wii U will actually look like. Aonuma explained:
"The demo that we showed at E3 was really just more of a rough idea of if all we were to do was to take a Zelda game and put it in HD, this is what it might look like. We’re much more interested in looking at the power of the Wii U system and seeing how we can take advantage of that power to do things that we haven’t been able to do in a Zelda game before.... One of our goals with [Skyward Sword] is to be the first step in illustrating for people how the Zelda series can change and evolve."
Next I asked Aonuma whether Nintendo has started considering an original Zelda game for the 3DS to follow-up the Ocarina of Time 3D remake. Aonuma said that he expects to be able to do something "very interesting" on the system. He gave me one highly suggestive hint, leading me to believe that the team is further along than just thinking about the new title: "It will be a game in which having 3D will mean something."
While it's fairly likely we won't be hearing much more about either of these Zelda projects until after Skyward Sword's release, it's also good to know that Aonuma and team have a whole lot of exciting Zelda stuff waiting just over the horizon for us.
For more info on Skyward Sword, be sure to pick up the October issue of Game Informer and check out our Zelda hub, where we'll be posting exclusive Zelda retrospective features and Skyward Sword content all month long.
i really dont like this
A Zelda game designed strikingly for the 3DS might be rather interesting. I am, myself, more interested in seeing Legend Of Zelda: Majoras Mask 3D in my hands.
I really hope they make a new Zelda 3DS game and not just a remake like with Ocarina of Time
Release Majoras mask remake already, by far one of the best Zelda's of all time. Now, to add a new game to the Title of the Wii U, I suggest that Nintendo brings back the "Twilight" Feel. (No not the movie) Twilight was darker, had a better "Over All Feel" To the game.
