Amnesia Developer's Next Game To Be "More Intellectually Demanding"

by Adam Biessener on Sep 09, 2011 at 06:51 AM

A blog post by Amnesia: The Dark Descent creators Frictional Games teased the team's early thoughts on their next project. Frictional's next game, currently in development at the company's Swedish studio, is going to be less of an overt horror title.

The as-yet-unnamed game is intended to be an exploration of "intellectually demanding subjects," which engages players mentally but doesn't rely on the classic adventure game puzzle design that can "disrupt the flow."

I personally can't wait to get a look at whatever Frictional produces next. Amnesia is one of my favorite games from the last few years, and I'm ecstatic that such a talented team came up big with what they thought was going to be their last game as a studio. Amnesia's success – almost 400,000 units sold – means that the developers can take bigger chances and eat things besides ramen and white rice this time around, and I'm hopeful for something special to be born as a result.
