Who Will Win Star Wars Galaxies?

by Matt Miller on Aug 30, 2011 at 12:50 PM

The Empire and the Rebel Alliance have fought a long and bitter conflict, and only one side can emerge victorious.

That's the message being sent by Sony Online Entertainment as the company prepares to shut down the long-running Star Wars Galaxies servers on December 15th.

In advance of the galaxy-ending event, the Galactic Civil War is going into overdrive. New options for winning Galactic Civil War points will be added into the game, and the two opposing factions will go head to head and each server will have a designated winner. The final moments of the game on each server will be different depending on who wins. "Celebrations will be in order for those who win and, for the losers, let's just say they'll be going out with a bang," explains a post on the game's official site.

In addition, neutral players will be allowed to opt out of the conflict and host their own game shutdown events if desired.

If you want to play through to the end of the game in December, you need to be an active subscriber on September 15th. Afterwards, no additional fees will be applied for new, old, or returning players.

We're not weather forecasters, but we put the chance of Death Star at 99% for this final event.
