The lights are on
Okay, this is pretty amazing. A two-man indie studio named Stabyourself.net is creating "Mari0," a game that imagines what it would be like if Mario had access to a Portal gun in the original Super Mario Bros.Stabyourself founders Maurice Guegan and Saso Smolej have been working on the project for awhile, and stress that this is not a mod of any existing code. So far, they seem to be working with recreations of the early levels of the original Super Mario Bros., but promise that future map packs will provide later levels plus The Lost Levels. They also say that they are working on a level editor, full story mode, and simultaneous multiplayer. This trailer gives you a pretty good idea of what to expect. Looks like an ingenious mash-up of two classic games. Thanks to GI reader Andrew for the news tip!

Looks pretty fun.
Looks like an awesome job as long as they don't try and profit from it. Otherwise as the above commenter mentioned already, these guys will have two sets of lawyers after them.
The koopa shell just became so much more ***....
Anything+Portal=Profit. Have to admit... that game certainly changed the way many people think. Think with Portals indeed... it's drilled into many peoples minds.
Dude, that is seriously awesome!!! I think Nintendo will laugh if it isn't laughing already.
I guess it's time to trash my 2d portal game design document.
They need to fix the shell's chain scoring, right now it just gives 200 points each...
