Sony Announces Resistance 3 As Pre-Order Bonus For PS3 3D Display

Sony hopes to make 3D gaming more accessible to the masses with its affordable PlayStation 3D Display, a 24-inch 3D television aimed at the college crowd. To sweeten the deal, the company just announced that those who pre-order the unit will receive an added bonus -- a copy of Insomniac's Resistance 3.

The unit retails for $499.99, and includes a pair of universal PlayStation 3D glasses, MotorStorm Apocalypse on Blu-ray, and an HDMI cable, meaning you'll have all the accessories you need to start 3D gaming right out of the box. Another interesting feature of the unit is its ability to display two full-screen (2D) HD images at once. Basically, if you and a friend are both wearing PlayStation 3D glasses (an extra pair retails separately for $69.99), you can both see completely different images on the same screen -- a definite step up from traditional splitscreen.

Interestingly, Resistance 3 was initially planned to be the pack-in game (as revealed when the TV was first announced at E3), but it was then replaced with MotorStorm Apocalypse. Now, to get Resistance 3 as a bonus, you'll have to pre-order the 3D Display by September 30, 2011.

This new video details all the features of the PlayStation 3D display.

  • I dont like 3D
  • Matt this is 3d tech to get excited about. This is worthwhile where as 3ds, eh, not so much. But yeah I saw that video and it screamed instant buy. Finally found a TV worthy to take up the mantle of my legendary Samsung GXtv.

  • I could use another TV... If I had the money I would definitely be considering this now. But I'm not sure I care about 3D or if I can even see it with my messed up eyes..

  • Still a little too pricey, especially because it's only 24", but the dual-picture screen is really cool. I'd like to see that in action.
  • they are pushing resistance really hard
  • Interesting deal. Don't have a PS3 atm, so no real reason to pre-order; still, pretty neat that Sony is using it as incentive.
  • I knew about this 2 weeks ago...
  • Makes sense to have the official pack-in something more family friendly... but Apocalypse doesn't exactly fit the bill, that game is pretty harsh in it's own right - at least when considering the lowest common denominator.
  • 3d seems cool in theory, but other than a couple of games, i'd never use 3d for anything. Mainly because the 3d movies they make now are just really bad, and i have a feeling killed the 3d craze

  • the only cool thing is that two people can see two completely different screens. with a new system on the way why pay 500 for a teensy 24" piece of 3d stomach churning technology? plus the 70 for the additional pair of puke specs. you can buy a decent 42" lcd 1080p hdtv for this price, and do whatever you want with it, only downfall is that its not 3d. ripoff big time. if it were 2 years early and at the same price... hell of a deal.... if 3d wasn't a total fad. it failed before, it'll fail again. like motion gaming.
  • Cool tech, great game, really good price...screen way too small for me.
  • I remember a few years ago when my friend made a joke about a Playstation TV all I can say is, WHO'S LAUGHING NOW? NOBODY
  • Hey Matt,

You're kinda slow with the gaming news:

    www.1up.com/.../gold-wii-remote-zelda-skyward-sword-bundle

  • Too small.

  • now i know what i gonna buy for holydays yeahh

  • Until 3D is somehow used to add greater immersion, I won't be buying a 3D tv anytime soon.
  • It seems a bit small but it should be good for my kids room, prolly going to pick one of these up.
  • Couldn't care less about all this 3D stuff, just a bunch of gimmick to me. That being said I'm definitly grabbing Resistance 3. No bundle for me though, already have 2 PS3's (fixed one i thought was broken).

  • The coolest thing about the TV is that you and a friend can look at the same screen and see a different image. I could care less about 3D
  • Love this TV and the tech behind it. Just wish it was at least 32", but considering everything you do get, it is a real deal.
