Wolfenstein 3D Pulled From App Store In Some Countries

If you live in Austria or Switzerland, you may have missed your chance to buy Wolfenstein 3D on iPhone, since the game was pulled due to offensive imagery.

According to id Software's John Carmack, the imagery in question is the many swastikas that can be found hanging in Castle Wolfenstein. Carmack tweeted: "The iOS App Stores in Switzerland and Austria just lost Wolfenstein Classic due to the offensive swastikas. :-("

If you live in North America, there's no need to worry. The game is still up on our version of the App Store.

  • Well that's odd.
  • HA theyre denying their pasts!!!! out of sight, out of mind....
  • Woa!!!!! Say what?!?!?!?!?!

  • Why not virtually kill your previous oppressors? How I'd it offensive?

  • Edit. Would have deleted, but the website hardly ever lets me.
  • I don't understand why a symbol of the past has to be covered up to protect citizens of a country. Ignorance is bliss I suppose...

  • Wow... They pull it off the market because of the one graphic that isn't totally pixelated.

  • omg who cares its the past its just a swastika

  • So... they're trying to deny that Hitler's oppression ever happened?

And what about the ubiquitous WWII movies? If a swastika is offensive to Austria/Switzerland, why aren't we hearing of movies be censored as well?

    God*mn biased governments.

  • Well...

  • oh yeah i forgot the nazis were still a thing.

  • did world at war and other games like that get banned there

  • So I can still talk about the Austrian- Hungarian empire?

  • Bah, screw you oversensitivity.

    It happened, deal with it.

  • swatikas are the poor racist burning cross.

  • Have any of you considered that the swastika ban is not an attempt to deny the past, but rather to crack down on those who are trying to recreate it? Hate groups still use that symbol. Furthermore, most swastika bans make exceptions for scholarly uses of the symbol, or they specifically mention that it's only illegal to use the symbol to promote hate. The laws themselves and the governments who made them aren't to blame. The problem is overzealous officials who attempt to get rid of any and all swastikas, no matter their usage.

  • big deal :P

  • These people are primitive. They are still living in their past. They still hate Hitler and probably the entire German people. My suggestion to these pathetic people is to play the original MOH on the PS One and thrill themeselves with killing German soldiers in that game. Achtung!
  • WHAT! this is the granddaddy of all shooters. Well mainstream shooters!. This game was awesome!. Who doesnt want to kick nazi ass wolf 3d style!

  • Shoudnt it be the other way around?
