[Update]: Mortal Kombat Arcade Collection Dated

[Update]: Warner Bros. has clarified a mistake in its earlier information about the Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection, which offers a trio of Mortal Kombat classics in their original arcade states.

The company has just sent out a press release clarifying that the PSN version of the game comes out first on August 30, and will then be available on the 31st for Xbox Live and PC.

[Original Story]: Warner Bros. has officially dated the Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection for PSN, PC, and Xbox Live Arcade, and it offers Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat 2, and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 in their arcade states.

The Kollection hits on August 31 for the price of $9.99 or 800 Microsoft Points. It's developed by Other Ocean in conjunction with NetherRealm Studios, and the games feature online play, leaderboards, achievements/trophies, and more.

Although these are being billed as arcade-perfect renditions, do you think they'll be able to faithfully replicate the experience on your favorite current-gen platform?

  • First! I love MK Keep em coming!
  • Now i might actually play the 2D fighter games since its only 10 bucks for all of it. Nice clever use of the K in Kollection :P
  • This is great. As a younger gamer, I've never had a chance to play those games, and all 3 of them for $10.00 makes it even better. Though, I'm pretty sure MK9 is almost identical to MK1.....
  • wow WB has really embraced this series after the dissolution of Midway, good to see since this is a very important game to the history of this industry. Plus, unlike most franchises it hasn't staled over time.
  • I'll never forget the first time I saw an MK1 arcade unit lol, good times.  I'd like to get this to have it but I doubt Ill play it, I don't have the time to memorize all the moves in the new game let alone all of the old games haha.

Spent enough time on them back in the day though thats for sure.

  • I think they will. I hope they will. When the first two came out, they were the reasons why I still went to arcades. Hell, I am looking into getting the actual arcade cabinets for the house. Especially MK 1.
  • I don't know. It might be tough for me to go back and play those games. They did not age well at all.
  • Awesome, I have been waiting for a release date!

    Can't wait! :).

It will be fun for people to complain online when they get caught with the cage uppercuts on MK 1 lol.

  • They should remaster and re-release Trilogy, the greatest MK of all time!!
  • top game that i like to playing them very much, welcome to http://goo.gl/bE88E ,there have more nice top games ,why not visit?
  • I love MK arcade

  • well, the layout of the snes was almost the same as the controllers now adays except for trigger buttons, but, yeah. i think itll do an prob ok job as to the experience of playing on oldie.

  • Cool. I already own UMK3 from the Arcade, but I guess I can buy it again. And now I understand why they took UMK3 off of the XBLA.
  • I went to Funspot this weekend and played MK3 with my nephew. We would have played MK2 but the coin slot was broken on player 2. :(
  • still haven't brought Rain or Freddy. *frustrated sigh*
  • Not a bad price at all. I just hope they don't have the horrible AI that previous MK ports have had. I don't mind challenge, but when the upper ladder opponents are demonstrating reflexes that are just not possible even on normal difficulty, it can get frustrating. Either way, if the lag isn't a problem should be fun to play online.
  • no thanks still have them 4 sega and super nes and wb should take a page from capcom and stop with dlc and just do it the way capcom does price drop and add more players like a new game all most rehasded in a good way and worth wild
  • Sweeeeet.

  • Is the title of this article a pun? Sure seems that way. I enjoy breaking out an emulator for about 15 minutes of old school fun at a time but any amount more and I usually get bored pretty fast

  • Unless they retool the fighting completely I don't think they'll match up to the current game. I still remember being able to trap opponents, or getting trapped by someone who just spammed the punch buttons.
