Harmonix Working On Smartphone Apps

by Ben Reeves on Aug 15, 2011 at 03:25 PM

A little over a month ago, Rock Band and Dance Central creator, Harmonix, trademarked the name VidRhythm. However, the studio left fans wondering what this mystery project could be. Finally, CEO Alex Rigopulos has shed some light on the project, revealing that it’s an iOS app.

Harmonix co-founder and CEO Alex Rigopulos recently told Gamasutra, "I can't say anything yet about what [VidRhythm] is, but in parallel with all these huge console game productions we have underway, we're commencing our first iOS development project."

Rigopulos later added, “We think there are a lot of creative opportunities [with smartphones] that we haven't really been able to focus on yet. So we're looking forward to doing more in that space.”

Smartphones could offer some exciting opportunities for the company, which is in the process of rebuilding after the financial stress and company buyouts it has gone through over the last few years. We’re excited to hear more about VidRhythm and Harmonix's other projects, but we have it on good authority that we won’t have to wait too much longer.
