The Old Republic Won't Be Locked, Even If You Live In A Country Far Far Away

by Jeff Cork on Aug 14, 2011 at 01:58 PM

If you've been eagerly anticipating the release of Electronic Arts and BioWare's MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic later this year, you're in good company. If you live in the Earthly equivalent of Tatooine, you may have resigned yourself to sitting this one out. Fear not, brave adventurer! BioWare says that the game won't block folks outside of Europe or North America from playing, either through IP blocking or by using other region-locking methods.

In a post on the game's official message board, community manager Stephen Reid said that people in remote territories could experience some latency issues, however. Well, yeah.

It's definitely a cool move on EA's part. They could have easily prevented players from other areas from checking out the game--especially since those latency issues could leave some folks with a negative impression of it. It looks like as long as you're willing to fork over the cash, EA will accommodate you.
