Age of Conan's New Strategy Pays Off

by Matt Miller on Aug 11, 2011 at 06:50 AM

Funcom is touting some big success for its newest business model. Age of Conan: Unchained relaunched last month with a new free-to-play business model, and it seems to have paid off.

Funcom claims that server activity on the game has quadrupled, and revenue has doubled. Included in that activity are 300,000 new players.

The revamped game ditches the traditional rating model and is now "unrated," a scheme that has always done pretty well for movie DVD releases. The development team is currently working on a tie-in adventure pack that will release alongside the upcoming Conan the Barbarian movie release on August 18th.
