True Crime: Hong Kong Coming In 2012 With New Title

Square Enix says "the game previously known as True Crime: Hong Kong" is coming in 2012.

In a blog post on Square Enix's European site, the company revealed that it is indeed moving forward with production on the game, which is still being developed by ModNation Racers developer United Front Games, which had started the project when it was still owned by Activision.

The game will document the efforts of Dectective Wei Shen, a Hong Kong police officer who is attempting to go undercover in the notorious Triad organized crime family.

While it's great news that the game is still coming along, it will be interesting to see just how drastic the name change is. Will Square Enix keep the already established True Crime brand and just change the subtitle or rebrand the franchise altogether?

  • Since the True Crime name belongs to Activision they might change the whole thing all together, it will be interesting to see what they do.
  • I don't care what they do with the name, I'm just glad it is coming out. Been waiting for this one for awhile now.

  • Instead of calling it "True Crime: Hong Kong" why not "Hong Kong"?
  • If any one could pull it off, it's Square Enix. They are truly rising to their full potential. From Hitman: Absolutions to this? What is next up their sleeve?
  • more big canceled games should come back like this: like say, oddworld games
  • its always great to see a game rise from the grave i hope it turns out good

  • I think they should change the name or just get rid of the True Crime name. I think Streets of Hong Kong would be a great name. Or Triad, kind of like Yakuza but better.
  • Didnt they cancel this game last year?? but im glad they didnt cause this game looks like it could be pretty good
  • What was that game Square cancelled? Planet Loco, or something? I dunno, it looked interesting. They're really branching out lately with games like this and Just Cause 2.
  • activision sucks. square einx is awesome!

  • YES! I remember thinking how great this game looked when it was announced, so I was disappointed when they said it was cancelled. Good look by Square on picking it up. And...wait, the ModNation guys are doing this? I didn't know that. That makes it even more interesting.

  • **SNIP** Lame joke is lame.
  • Crime Syndicate , sounds cool.
  • great, another spinoff.

  • I hope they stick with True Crime, the main character reminds me of the cop in Streets of LA. That'd be cool if it was him again

  • They'll probably re-brand the franchise all together.

  • I'm really happy to hear about this. I haven't ever really been a True Crime fan (only because I've never played any of them) but True Crime: Hong Kong had me extremely interested and I was disappointed when Activision canceled it.

  • This game looked decent enough to at least keep an eye on when it was announced, so I'm glad its getting the chance to come out. Hopefully its worth the effort.
