HBO Go Heading To Consoles

Get ready to watch some of the greatest television shows of all time from the comfort of your console.

At a company earnings call today, Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes confirmed that the popular streaming service would expand its reach from web browsers and mobile devices to connected televisions and game consoles.

Why is this such awesome news? Instead of dealing with the quixotic grab bag of non-consecutive episodes provided by Comcast and DirecTV's on-demand services, you can watch every single episode of every HBO original series at any time. If you haven't watched them already, we suggest you start with Deadwood, The Wire, and Game of Thrones.

No time table has been announced, but we'd be surprised if the service didn't launch on consoles within a year or so. Although there are no price details at this time, given that the service is free to HBO subscribers on other platforms, we expect the same for consoles.

  • man i lov how consoles are becoming this sort of entartainment, but i don't want them to get away from being focused on games

  • I only want HBO for Game of Thrones. The show is not worth $15 a month, so if I can't pay for this separate from HBO, I'm not interested.

I would honestly prefer that HBO just offer individual episodes on iTunes or the PSN or XBL stores. That way, I could just pay two or three bucks a week for the new Thrones episode and be done with it.

  • True Blood, that's all I want.

  • Well it wasn't long before they did this. Considering there are hundreds of millions of people that own consoles, and the fact that Netflix and Hulu are already on them, it would make sense to follow suit. Not that I'm complaining, this is a great addition indeed!

  • EAST. BOUND. and. DOWN!
  • This is great. HBO definitely has some of the best original programming available. Everything from East Bound and Down(hilarious!) to Game of Thrones is on HBO and though I have HBO already it will be cool to get HBO Go on my consoles so I can see every episode of all my favorite shows. I hope this comes relatively soon.

  • HBO Go is the best.  Just had a 3 month free trial and watched just about every series HBo has put on (They have the full seasons of every show...basically every episode ever made) Deadwood, GoT, The Pacific, Rome, The Wire, the list goes on.  Take advantage of this if you have HBO, Im already trying to convince the wife we need it back...

  • This is great. This is the best app on my phone.

  • Khaleesi on my 360 oh yeah

  • its about time

  • Now Time Warner Cable needs to start caring about their customers and get HBOGO! I mean they own HBO why wouldnt they have it as an option?
  • Sahweet!

  • This seems like a killer app. HBO has some stellar shows, and this would be worth it for any fan of great television.

  • This and Borderlands 2 is the best news I've heard all month, including the month of July.....my life is....so very sad.  :)

  • Ill get this...for free

  • wow.. thats great.

  • Carnivale was an amazing freak of a show (pun most definitely intended).

  • Even less of a reason to use my Cable Box over my Xbox. Before you know it I can scrap the *** thing altogether and save hundreds.

This is in addition to the YouTube and TV Service that's coming later this fall, in the giant fall update that happens every year. I'd assume it would launch alongside all that.

And it's still happening like I've said countless times. The Xbox isn't just for games anymore. It's gone from just a gaming console to an all-around entertainment console, all on the same generation. I'm looking forward to what its successor can bring us.
  • Game of thrones!!! can i get a what what

  • I've heard this is a great service but I haven't tried it out and I don't watch HBO all that much. I wonder when this is coming out and how much it's going to cost.
