Catherine Is Biggest Launch In Atlus History

Many thought that the game wouldn’t sell well in the U.S. Some even believed that the game would never be localized for the western market, but Atlus’s strange love triangle/sheep dream, Catherine, has quickly become the company’s fastest selling title to date.

"Catherine has exceeded our highest expectations," Tim Pivnicny, Atlus VP of sales and marketing told IGN. "It is fitting, then, that Catherine can boast the largest launch in the 20-year history of Atlus, and continues to see strong sales at retail."

We’re happy to hear that a quirky, somewhat niche, title is getting it’s due. GI’s own Phil Kollar gave the game a 7, so it’s probably not for everyone. But what do you all think about the game? Are you happy with your purchase?

  • is a great game, i hope this make more title come to america
  • Well, GI's own Phil Kollar has been perpetuating this game since day one, so that probably influenced some gamers who visit this site to buy it, despite the ending score... no offense to Phil or anyone else, just pointing that out.
  • In Phil (and GI) I trust. I love Disgaea and other titles from Atlus; combine that with the coverage the game has gotten here, I was really looking forward to its release. Block puzzles aren't often exciting. Ever since I saw the Japanese trailer and the video of the gameplay here, I was very worried. Phil's review just confirmed my concern. The triangle story is intriguing and all, but I don't play video games for a story experience - Book and movies are a far better mediums for storytelling. I've enjoyed games that have received low scores. But, most of them had some kind of silly/quirky draw that appealed to me. I don't get that vibe with Catherine. Maybe I'll pick it up cheap one day or borrow it, but it's not a planned purchase for me.
  • i want to get it but moneys to tight at the moment

  • Well I'm happy that other games are selling well instead of the usual AAA titles. Hopefully, the Cursed Crusade will be as good as this or perhaps better.

  • What kind of game is this? I've never heard of it :O

  • yes very much i love it a lot

  • This game is great! Very happy about the fact that its selling well. Im almost at the end and so far every second has been entertaining

  • I really enjoyed the game particularly the how there is a choice system that isn't already made for you. That gives this game a major plus over games like Mass Effect and inFamous which will great have choice systems that aren't really choices.

  • i heard about this thought nothing of it. saw a gameplay video then pre-ordered it (deluxe edition and all). read reviews all were positive (except, of course, yours truly game informer). bought the game and now i absolutely love it. all the people out there that think this game is garbage are stupid FPS fanboys that think they're "hardcore" gamers cuz they can quick scope in TDM. why dont you idiots try a game that has some substance to it???

  • I dont see how this game bested Demon's Souls.

  • LOVE IT. No regrets getting that game at all ^_^

  • Hopefully this means more from the Golden Playhouse! Probably not a Catherine 2 but I would love to see a separate story done in the same style.  Based on the intro and conclusion thats what I think Atlus would want to do too

  • I love it. And good for Atlus, hopefully this will be the start of something amazing.

  • That's awesome, good for Atlus!!

I'm surprised it beat Demon's Souls too. haha

  • This is kind of pathetic. The game is Qbert with ***. Just proves, sex really does sell, no matter how crappy the actual product it.
  • "GI’s own Phil Kollar gave the game a 7, so it’s probably not for everyone." no disrespect to Phil here but why is he representing everyone? or is it b/c its rated M?

just because he gave it a 7 doesnt mean the game is bad or anything its him from his professional standpoint doesnt think its a good game... but personally I think the game is awesome but too hard on some stages...

  • Poor 3D Dot Game Heroes...doesn't get the recognition that it deserves...
  • I'm completely satisfied with the game, it's great! I'm happy to see that the game is doing well and isn't going to suffer from the "great games that don't sell well issue" lol.

  • I love the game's puzzles and the story is amazingly deep too. And there's a perfect balance between the two so one doesn't overpower the other. The characters are very likable and get the story moving at a good pace. I'm glad I got my Deluxe Edition of it (Both the shirt and boxers are surprisingly comfy lol).
