Words With Friends Coming To Facebook

by Matt Helgeson on Aug 01, 2011 at 08:00 AM

Zynga's ultra-popular Scrabble clone has conquered both iOS and Android with its asynchronous word game fun. Today, the company announced that it's coming to Facebook with all its features intact.

This will mark the first time a Zynga mobile game is making the transition to Facebook, and from what we know so far it appears they are doing it right. You'll be able to form words, then wait as your friend is notified that it's their turn. Of course, this being Facebook, you'll be able to use "Brag feeds" to notify your pal when you've hit a high-scoring word. And since Words With Friends is popular on both iPhone and Android, users on both plaforms are able to seamlessly continue their Facebook game on their phone. As an Android user, I hope that functionality is coming to my platform of choice soon. Pictured above is the first screenshot of the Facebook version of Words With Friends. It looks like a pretty nice interface.

In other Words With Friends news, in a recent game I've been playing with my colleague Dan Ryckert, my available letters were "A, A, A, A, A, A." That's right: six A tiles. And, since it was the end of the game, I couldn't swap any out. That's ridiculous and I'm frankly quite bitter about it.

[Correction: Zynga has confirmed that both Android and iOS users will be able to use seamless Facebook/mobile crossplatform play]
