If You Were Better At Dota, You Could Win A Million Dollars

by Adam Biessener on Aug 01, 2011 at 10:57 AM

Valve is not only showing off Dota 2 at Gamescom in Germany later this month. The company is also giving a million dollars to the winners of The International, a sixteen-team double elimination Dota 2 tournament taking place during the show.

Valve is broadcasting the tournament for free in English, German, Russian, and Chinese. I would imagine that you'll be able to find links on the official Dota 2 site when the time comes.

Amusingly, none of the teams are from the U.S. You'll find competitors from Russia, Thailand, Malaysia, China, and Denmark – but no local boys. On the plus side, that means we won't have any international embarrassments like the U.S. national mens' soccer team crapping the bed in the Gold Cup final earlier this year.

Gamescom runs August 17-21 in Cologne, Germany. The International spans the length of the show.

Will you be watching, or are you skipping Dota 2 to stick with League of Legends or Heroes of Newerth?
