The lights are on
If you can put down the controller for a second when Battlefield 3 comes out on October 25, you may want to read Battlefield 3: The Russian, a novel co-written by ex-SAS operative and DICE consultant Andy McNab (anonymously shown above).
The book (co-authored by Peter Grimsdale) explores the backstory of Battlefield 3's RU special forces operator Dmitri "Dima" Mayakovsky, who is one of the game's single-player characters.
"It is impossible for any single medium to fully capture the emotion and intensity of war," says McNab. "The Battlefield 3: The Russian novel is one window into the experience, and the game is another. They complement each other perfectly. Working with DICE has been a fantastic ride," he continues. "Battlefield 3 is going to surprise people this autumn. The story, the characters, the world, and the intense action come together to create a resonant, memorable experience."

At first I thought this would be in Russian.
Im sure to be picking this up when it comes out.
That's great. I hope the book is as kickflank as the games looks like it's going to be.
I can't put down the controller, I'll be hoofin' it to the mcom station.
just adding to my hype pile...
Really enjoy Richard Marcinko's novels, so The Russian could be pretty neat if it follows in the same vein. Looking forward to both the book and the game.
This is flanking awesome! I wonder what this McNab pony's story is going to be about.
Hmm, fascinating. I am not terribly sure, but I think that this Russian, "one of the game's single-player characters", might be a player character. That would shake things up quite a bit.
When does this book come out? I want it!
That sounds great. Nothing like a great story written from someone who's been there, done that. Especially when they were a *** SAS member.
Sound's legit. I'm glad I pre-ordered this game. I haven't played any of the Battlefield games but this game won't have a too linear story/gameplay will it?
Wow the ponies at DICE are really stepping up their game.
that sounds as if it would be pretty cool
Why would this be 3 stars? Don't be pissed because you have to sit down and actually read. (They aren't forcing you) Other than that this is really cool I mean to get both sides of the story. Just because they are Russians doesn't mean they are evil and just because the Marines are in it they're are going to be those few bad marines. In war there isn't good vs evil. Its just what country can get most of the power.
i am just wondering what kind of a war this is and who is at each others throats. all i know is the us have been fighting Iran and the PLA from the e3 videos.
