Used Game Shops In Japan Slash 3DS Prices Early

by Joe Juba on Jul 30, 2011 at 01:31 PM

The announcement of the 3DS price drop was big news, and it continues to send ripples throughout the industry. Since Nintendo gave little warning about the reduction, many shops in Japan were unable to adjust their stock, and are already selling the system for cheap.

According to a report from Japanese gaming site Andriasang, many retailers selling the system used have already cut the price of the 3DS to cheaper than it will be when the new suggested retail price takes effect August 11. For example, one store is selling used systems for 13,800 yen (the price for a new 3DS is currently 25,000 yen, and will be 15,000 yen on August 11).

The problem that arises is that these retailers paid a lot of money for the systems that comprise their current stock, and because of the sudden and drastic price cut, they won't be able to sell them back for as much as they anticipated.

Don't forget: If (for some reason) you're considering buying a 3DS before the price cut, you can still become a 3DS ambassador!
