Duke Gets A Bigger Inventory In Upcoming DNF Patch...On PC

by Phil Kollar on Jul 29, 2011 at 10:47 AM

One of the biggest complaints about Duke Nukem Forever was the strange choice to limit Duke to a Halo or Call of Duty-style two-weapon loadout. Now Gearbox is saying it will patch this issue out of the game...for PC players, at least.

News of the patch comes from the Gearbox forums, where it's mentioned that in addition to increasing Duke's weapon-carrying capacity to four guns, the patch will add Valve Anti-Cheat support, push-to-talk chat, and various other fixes.

The bad news? This update may not come to consoles. ShackNews spoke Gearbox community manager Chris Faylor, who further explained the issue in another thread on the Gearbox forums:

"The expanded inventory feature coming to the PC version is an unsupported option, brought to you as quickly as the team could manage and driven by respect towards the interests of our fans because we knew it was something you really wanted. Unfortunately, to allow any more weapons to be carried at once involves overcoming several significant technical challenges and assumptions within the software that cannot be quickly overcome on consoles without risk to the performance, stability or integrity of the software. As such, it's unlikely that the expanded inventory can be enabled on consoles at this time."

Faylor went on to reiterate that Gearbox is working on more updates for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of Duke as well, so hopefully they figure something out.
