Nintendo 3DS Video Service Launches

by Bryan Vore on Jul 22, 2011 at 07:33 AM

Nintendo's promised video service has finally arrived. Check out what's in the first batch and how the service works.

3DS users first have to download the Nintendo Video service, and once you launch the new app the videos automatically start downloading. A new batch of videos will automatically download each week if you have SpotPass turned on, and once they are downloaded the old videos are automatically deleted. This way you're pressured to watch the new stuff before it disappears. Right now the service only supports four videos at a time, and there's no word whether it's possible to have more on your system at the same time.

Here's the current lineup:

Sunday Jog - an animated short featuring two rectangles running away from a giant red brick
Dinosaur Office - a claymation short from College Humor with dinosaurs... in an office
Captain America: The First Avenger trailer
A commercial for the Nintendo Video service itself

One thing to note: Other videos can't download in the background while you're watching one, so it's best to let everything download before you start watching. Hopefully, this minor annoyance will be mitigated via the SpotPass background downloads that occur when the 3DS is in sleep mode.
