The lights are on
Impulse Technology says it created the technology first, and the company would like the courts to do something about it.
The Ohio-based firm claims that Microsoft's motion tracking sensor violates seven of its patents, include those that cover a "wide variety of games where the movement of a player is tracked in three dimensions…and certain exercise games where the motion of the player is tracked to effect movement of a virtual avatar, and the exertion of the user is monitored, including where the tracking of the player is done by the use of a camera."
Other publishers are also named in the suit, including EA, Konami, and Sega, all for making games for the Kinect that also violate the patents.
If the case succeeds, it could affect any number of issues surrounding Microsoft's ability to sell the Kinect and its games, and might also result in significant damages to the software giant.
Like any case, it's likely to be a long time before we hear any final say on how it will turn out. When there is progress on the case, we'll let you know.

Patents the way they are now are the most retarded thing ever created. Oh, I created something that can do math, PATENT!!
I always love how companies like this go, "Hm, this Kinect thing has been out for almost a year and we just now realized, it's like our stuff!" Really? I took you guys a year to start suing over something that had one of the biggest launches in history?
Patents are so confusing. They allow new things but allow no similarities. I should patent breathing suckers.
How come it took this long for them to say something. The things been public knowledge for well over a year and has been out for about a year, and they're just now noticing something odd . . . WOW!
Impulse Technology says it created the technology first. You cant creat technology really you cant create anything you only discover it. if i write and create music ofcourse another person might take a peice from my music that might sound the same but its still diffrent because they added something diffrent that makes it their own. Impulse Technology are just whining little babies maybe they did create it first their problem is they didnt tell anyone about it by showing off an example like kinect which is a better copy of the playstation EYE TOY. I understand that if you have an idea you treat it like its your baby which is not the way to go.
while it would suck for developers/publishers if something accualy came of this i'd almost like to see something happen to microsoft assuming it to be true just cause the amount they've been trying to cram it down ppls throats that being said i do however doubt anything will come from this
They have to make sure that the patents are being broken before the lawsuit is filed....that takes time...which is why you're just hearing about it now
Just another financially screwed company trying to make a quick buck off of one of the big boys...
Why did this take 7 months to be addressed? Microsoft must be laughing right now.
Come on, it was known that Microsoft will produce the Kinect for nearly 2 years now, didn't they realize that before now? They just want some money, sholes...
Same thing with Apple and HTC, I hate people like that!! SCREW YOU IMPULSE!
Bla bla bla I want money bla bla I'll sue anyone bla bla...
Since they're in crappy Ohio, they need the money. Got to have some tribute to pay to Johnny Kasich and his cronies.
Microsoft gonna win, cause they awesome...
Given how long it's taken them to file a lawsuit and the amount of companies they are suing I doubt this gets very far for Impulse Technology.
thats funny that i t claims that they invited that teck cams that track movement have been around 4 a long time silly and i doubt they did it or they wouldn't b crying problem would have been solved right
