The lights are on
Nintendo has confirmed that the Wii U won't be able to play GameCube discs, but you may still be be able to enjoy your favorite games from the old system.
In an interview with NintendoGal, Nintendo of America's director of entertainment and trend marketing Amber McCollum explains how the GameCube era fits into the company's plans.
"Nintendo’s history usually goes back one system. The Wii was compatible with GameCube and Wii U will be compatible with Wii and that’s pretty traditional in launches from Nintendo," says McCollum. She goes on confirm that some GameCube titles will be available via download: "The GameCube discs will not be compatible with Wii U, but a number of the games that were playable on GameCube can be downloaded from WiiWare."
What those downloadable titles will be isn't clear, but it's no surprise that Nintendo is making plans to capitalize on its history of successful software with Wii U.

Oh good. I'm happy.
TAKE MY MONEY
That's awesome, there is nothing better than going on to PSN and seeing PS1 classics like MediEvil, Spyro, Tomb Raider, Syphon Filter etc... Hopefully the Wii U will bring about the same nostalgia w/ GameCube classics :)
Sweet I can't wait to play Gamecube games i missed playing the first time arund :D
that should work for some games I can't find
As long as they dont go charging any more than a used copy of the game.
Well neither of which is surprising. And hey, they can resell you the the games you might have already bought!
