EA Drops New Details On Battlefield 3's Battlelog

EA's Battlefield 3 is getting set to clash with Activision's Modern Warfare 3 on two fronts. While the two military shooters will duke it out at retail later this year, EA and Activision also have competing social gaming networks attached to both titles. Will EA's Battlelog have what it takes to compete with Activision's Call of Duty Elite service? Only time will tell. Today, EA revealed a bit more of what we can expect from Battlelog when it launches.

In a new Battleblog, developer DICE spoke in greater detail on how fans will experience the Battlelog service.

“We want to make Battlefield 3 a more social gaming experience and it all starts with Battlelog,” says Fredrik Loving, Battlelog producer at DICE. “We are changing how you communicate, play, compete and share content with their friends, extending the in-game experience to be accessible from your home computer, on your handheld devices while commuting, or wherever you may be."

The main point of connection between you and your friends in Battlelog will be the Battlefeed, which -- not surprisingly -- appears to be very similar to a Facebook feed. In the Battlefield, you'll see what others in your network of friends are up to in the game. This includes ranking up, unlocking achievements, or which online multiplayer mode they are currently playing. If you see someone playing a mode you want to join in, you'll be able to do so with a push of a button. It looks like you can even "Give a hooah!" about things people post, which is a really dorky way of "Liking" something as on Facebook.

Of course, each player will have a online profile for stat tracking and comparing with others, which DICE says will track "every shot" fired in the game.
