QuakeCon Tourneys Announced

by Matt Bertz on Jul 18, 2011 at 05:53 AM

Quake Live isn't the only game getting the tournament treatment at Quakecon this year.

In addition to the expected Quake Live duel and team deathmatch inviationals, Splash Damage's much maligned game Brink is joining the ranks of the competitive shooters with an open tourney. From our experience it's been hard to find anyone to play with in recent weeks on consoles, which is perhaps the reasoning behind capping the teams at five players even though the game supports up to eight players per side. Let's hope the PC community is deep enough to field a lineup of worthy participants.

The big money is still going to the Quake Live players. Winning the duel tourney will net you $8,000, and the team deathmatch competition has a purse of $16,000. The Brink prizes are slightly less glamorous – video cards and autographed copies of the game.

Players can sign up for the Dallas-based tourney here. Registration is open until July 31, and the event takes place August 4-7.
