The lights are on
Dance Dance Revolution has been getting kids off the couch for years now, and Konami's hoping it can help bring attention to childhood obesity. They're hosting a Childhood Obesity Summit in West Virginia later this month, and a DDR tournament is on the schedule.
"The popularity of Dance Dance Revolution in West Virginia is reshaping our youths' mindset regarding what constitutes physical activity," said West Virginia Governor Earl Ray Tomblin. "I am proud of the positive impact Dance Dance Revolution is having on family time with children and adults across the state."
It will take place July 27th and 28th at the Embassy Suites in Charleston.

The popularity of Dance Dance Revolution in West Virginia is reshaping our youths' mindset regarding what constitutes physical activity," really because it just told me that my feet are uncoordinated and I should never try to dance well. But on a positive note I love what konami is doing but it really should be in corpus christi after all we are the most obese city in the world.
I think it's great they're doing this. ANYTHING to get kids active. I ate no more than 1600 calories a day and danced for three months(not with DDR, just regular dancing listening to my iPod) and lost 10 pounds.
Also, I live in WV, and Konami is right; it really was huge deal. Hell, our LIBRARIES here let kids play DDR to get them in shape.
I think the exercise craze for games is stupid, but hey, sometimes kids need something that catches their attention. Would you rather play DDR or just jog on a treadmill?
That is awesome. I bet that the Wii and Kinect have showed how children can get up and moving. I would much rather have them playing games that get the physical then for them to ruin Cod, Battlefield, and halo.
Nice, lets get those children some exercise!
DDR: Dancing games done RIGHT!
W.....wait..... this is america.....we like to eat....and get fat.
Dance the fat away ***!!!
Well stopping obesity is a good thing so this is good news.
Nice to see something like this taking place, obesity is simply no good. Kudos to Konami.
Mighty fine choice on the region for it to happen in too x.x
i'm glad for this; kids will be able to have a healthier future by starting a healthier lifestyle. And what better way to do that than to dance!
lucky
I guess it's good that Konami acts like they care, but good parenting is the only area that can make real improvement. Game developers, politicians and lawmakers have all tried and failed to make a positive impact on obesity to a large degree. Konami can make a great dance game and include a calorie counter and link achievements and trophies to certain milestones to keep gameplay interesting, but if mom or dad is in the kitchen making hot dogs and Frito chili pie for dinner it's all for naught. Never mind the fact that a lot of kids are eating TV dinners and Hot Pockets when the parents aren’t around anyway.
Me gusta.
Nothing quite compares to some good ol' DDR to lose some weight.
Go outside people get up off your butts and start moving around doing something as long as you are working your body
Hm child obesity.....isn't this a parental problem? "Oh my kids fat! Blame McDonalds that I keep buying for him!" Seriously this isn't a video gaming issue. If a kid is fat by birth just get him into sports. But it is nice that a gaming company can try to save the world a little bit at a time. This topic is a joke
