The lights are on
Rayman Creator Michel Ancel has expressed that he'd like the UbiArt framework used within Rayman Origins to be released as open-source to other developers.
“UbiArt has been built to be shared,” Ancel told Develop. “It won’t be like other games technologies, which are often just locked away.” “If the guys who invented the paintbrush only kept it for themselves then fine art [would be in a sorry state], it would be ephemeral," he continued. "So yes, I want [UbiArt] to be open source, I want it to go out and be shared and evolved."
The head honchos at Ubisoft have yet to finalize UbiArt's licensing terms, but Ancel assured Develop that the framework will be free for use.
This is a great idea!
great news for anyone wanting to try there hand at making games i like the way that guy thinks
hmm... i wonder if i can use this with an iPhone or Android... that would be awesome!! I've always loved Rayman, and this is simply amazing
Well this is a good idea! :D
That's awesome: DO IT UBI!
I'd definitely make use of these tools and hopefully get a 2D Shatterhand remake going. Then I'd get it shut down by some now nonexistent game company. Then I'd cry and swear off games forever. Then I'd devote the rest of my life to papercraft.
...but yeah. I'd love to mess around with those tools.
Man, Id love to be able to experiment with those tools!
I approve of this message.
i will make so many games... i don't don't even know the first thing about making games.
I hope it will be open source. I wanna use it. I'm an artist, not a programmer. Programming sucks.
Do this and I will buy this game for sure! I love it when the developer allows the community to make crazy new levels or mods with their engine.
I'm planning on being a game developer one day, and this could be the very tools to start my quest. Hope this goes public soon!
