The lights are on
With the military shooter battle between Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 shaping up to be one of the most intense rivalries in video game history, we've been waiting for more shots to be fired between the soon-to-be-warring factions. Consider this the latest escalation.
Aggregame points out the rather surprising news that ModernWarfare3.com, a domain you'd assume Activision would have purchased years ago, currently redirects visitors to the Battlefield 3 website. This redirect just went into place yesterday, but the ModernWarfare3.com domain was registered via GoDaddy in 2009.
Some have speculated that EA itself is behind this bold move, but the more likely scenario is that some devoted Battlefield fans (or devoted Activision haters) registered the domain before Activision thought of it and just now put this into place as a blow against the publisher.
If that's not enough goofiness for you, ModernWarfare4.com was also registered by someone other than Activision. The devoted PC gamer who picked up this domain is angry at Activision for removing dedicated servers from Modern Warfare 2 and is currently running a poll to help figure out what to do with the domain that the publisher would presumably eventually want to use.
The lesson? Publishers, get those domains registered early and often, even if it means rumor stories running on all of the blogs.
[Thanks to Austin for the news tip.]
Battlefield fans fighting dirty, eh? It's surprising, I would expect such antics from the CoD crowd. Looks like we're in for a good old mud-slinging contest.
LOVE IT!!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA
This is hilarious. It's not all that hard to do, and it is one clever, mischievous idea. I can picture the owners of these sites giggling in excitement over the publicity they are getting. Also, the Battlefield Website is looking pretty cool.
I'm excited for both games, and this will be an epic war between games. They will both sell great, play great, and grow great. Battlefield's head start of a few weeks will hopefully give it an edge - I'd like to see the tables turned from Call of Duty to another fantastic, deserving shooter series like Battlefield. And if that reason isn't enough, check out the trailers, gameplay, and reveals! They speak for themselves! It all looks so great, and the whole gaming community is really excited.
Little tidbits of funny news like this keep my mind excited, informed, and sharp for what is coming to the FPS gaming community in a few long anxious months.
This is awesome hahaha
This is so awesome. When companies compete, the consumer wins. Hopefully this rivalry goes even further
I'm getting both but I'm more excited about MW3.
In the famous words of the foolish man named Charlie Sheen,
Oh man this made my day. But I still hoped that Ea release the game 2 weeks after MW3 so they could return it so they could get BF3
oh snap! thats kind of funyy
So much news relating these two FPS, it's like everywhere forum has some article about either MW3, BC3 or both :P
I clicked on the MW3 website for a laugh, but then I was blown away by that B3 screen shot. I'm so excited for Battlefield 3!
This grudge match just keeps on getting better.
Im getting both. so f yea.
