The lights are on
Nintendo is being sued by Tomita Technologies over the tech used to create the 3DS' glasses-free 3D.
The lawsuit brought on by Tomita (found by Patent Arcade) centers around Tomita's U.S. Patent No. 7,417,664 titled "Stereoscopic Image Picking Up and Display System Based Upon Optical Axes Cross-Point Information," which relates to “technology relating to displaying stereoscopic images on-screen for viewing with the naked eye, i.e., without utilizing glasses or other devices.” The patent was filed in 2003 and awarded in 2008. According to Patent Arcade, the lawsuit does not detail exactly how Nintendo infringes on Tomita's work.
Of course, from handhelds to controllers to you name it, whenever a new system or peripheral comes out these days there's almost always a lawsuit like this. Then again, we have no idea if Tomita's complaint is legit.

Gee what a shock. It was only a matter of time before someone claimed to be sitting on a patent.
Hah. What a joke.. good luck with that Tomita.
Nintendo probably has like 300 lawyers.
they just made a 3d evo so why not sue them as well haha
What kind of person sues Nintendo, Nintendo has like a Billion lawyers.
I think this company needs to be.......Assassinated! Time to get the big guns to save Nintendo's ass.
Could this even be considered news? We already know the outcome.
if this is legit then why wait almost a year to sue. Also didn't he say that it is not detail how Nintendo Infrinfed TOmita's work. This is BS this guy just wants to try to earn extra money with lies. Also nintendo probably has like 100 profesional lawers that could easyly win this case
this is probably going to be like the movie 300, but replaced with lawyers, and the spartans are ninendo.
Haha 3DS is great, Tomita just wants to have a share in the profits Nintendo has made since release.
Of course. A gaming company releases a new piece of HW, they get sued for patent infringement. Sun Rise, Sun Set.
This happened with the trigger on the Wii-motes too. Sony has been sued for patent infringement for the dual shock controller, the memory architecture of the PS3, Blue-Ray technology, and the PSP wifi. Nintendo and Sony were both sued for patent infringement at the same time for using the wireless tech in their controllers. Before that they were both sued together along with Apple for patent infringement over memory sharing architecture features in the PS2, PSP, Gamecube, and Ipod Touch. MS was recently sued for patent infringement on the Kinect but they were sued first for software patents for features on XBL. So yeah, this pretty much happens every time. Nothing new. The judge tosses this out because Nintendo's tech is too dissimilar to this guys patent or Nintendo pays this guy to go away. Either way I don't envision a disruption of the 3DS.
So, people get this. U have a great idea? go for it, but get a lawyer and ready to get sued! 'cause everybody want a piece of U!
its kinna odd never heard of this company until they announced the l-suit
Just look at it this way;
Nintendo would most definatly sue what's his face technology if he infringed on one of nintendos precious patents
Haha nintendo can sue me anytime
sue me sue me!
