Kinect Add-On Makes Space Less Of A Concern

If you're dying to play a Kinect game but don't have the recommended six feet of space the body-scanning peripheral requires, you might be in luck. Today Nyko has announced a price and release date for a new peripheral that makes gaming in smaller rooms possible.

Nyko Zoom is a clip-on lens that the company says will cut Kinect's space requirements by 40%. It will sell for $30, and was nominated by a number of outlets for Best Hardware of Show at this year's E3. We didn't get a chance to check it out, but if it does what Nyko claims, it seems like a no-brainer for Kinect owners who lack six feet of empty space in their living rooms...which we're guessing is just about everyone?

Nyko Zoom will be available in all major retail outlets on August 23.

  • This is neat considering one of the reasons I never got a kinect was my space issues, and now i may reconsider it.

  • sweet gotta get this since i only have about three feet between me and my tv

  • I just wanna be able to play while sitting down. Thats where they messed up. I cant even play child of eden while sitting which is really stupid considering you only need your hands. I cant stand for long periods of time.

  • Could be a very nice peripheral if it actually works as designed, somehow I forsee a Xbox version of this coming out soon.

  • I might get a kinect. just cause I get tired of hearing about it.

  • In other words a cheaper version so they can sell more.

  • I think Microsoft purposely didn't integrate this into Kinect so they could make a peripheral for it down the road.
  • It's like glasses for your Kinnect!

  • I'll care once there there are some Kinect-enabled games worth playing. So far the only thing I've seen with promise is the upcoming Fable installment.
  • I have a big enough livving room to be able to avoid this.

  • OOH BOY! A peripheral peripheral! What a relief, I was about to start spending my money on actual games instead of more add-ons that make them less fun!
  • Just like XBox! Always making you buy peripherals that should have been in the system in the first place. *cough* wireless adapter *cough* Now they have a peripheral for your peripheral!

  • recommended 6 feet.  You need like 10 feet. I most definitely have more room than that 6 feet but still need more space to play single player dance central.  I'm hoping the reviews are stellar because this peripheral for a peripheral is a necessity.  why hasn't microsoft made one already?

  • Great. Where's the add-on that makes the complete lack of real games less of a concern?

  • Great idea, good to see SOMEONE is helping out dorm room students and NY apartment dwellers. Just wish Microsoft would have gotten off their asses and done something about this themselves.

  • thank freakin god! got a kinect, dont have the space they kept showin in all the demo's! thank you Nyko for fixing a real life glitch

  • So let me get this straight: This is a peripheral, for a peripheral. Huh?

  • You'd think with everything else this thing does that it'd already include a zoom feature, but I guess MS didn't think that'd be important. Let's see if this actually turns out well, as Nyko's peripherals haven't always been the best in my experience.

  • I'll buy it. I definitely don't have the space.

  • Will this help them sell N'ads?
