Google+ Social Network To Feature Games

With so much money being made on Facebook games, it's probably no surprise that Google, which just announced its new Google+ social network, has its eyes the social games market.

Today, we got confirmation of the company's plans due to some references to "Google+ Games" in the source code to Google+.

The tech blog Engadget broke the news, revealing some lines in the Google+ source code that read: "have sent you Game invites and more from Google+ Games."

Seems pretty clear. Also, Google had already announced its intention to enter the game space in some respect with a job posting for a product manager that was described in the ad as such:

"Rare opportunity to grow a brand-new business - Games at Google! We are looking for a strategic, technical and game-loving Product Manager to drive Google's gaming strategy. You will design strategies for game distribution and discovery, player identity, game mechanics, and more. In addition to designing a great user experience and building out key partnerships, you will be significantly influencing Google's social platform as you work directly with a critical set of early adopters, game developers. Interesting and impactful decisions involving social gaming, privacy, virality, business, and technical APIs await you and the strong, passionate team of gamers you will work with."

  • Great.... more dumb social network games, well it is google maybe they'll do it right. Also i farted
  • As long as there's Halo
  • Yeah who knows. It's nucking futs how much those stupid app games make on social networking sites. You wouldn't think they would either. Oh well. Maybe Google can make some decent games unlike half the stupid stuff on fb and various other sites. The only online place I've enjoyed playing games for a long time is addictinggames.
  • As long as there's no Closed Captioning and Ads to ruin it, I'm in!

  • just as long as theres no farmville. i hate farmville. its a discgrace to harvest moon and other farming titles out there..

  • This is dumb... I love the clean fresh style of + and think that ppl spamming me to play some stupid game I don't care about will ruin the experience. The only problem I currently have with + is I can't send out anymore invites, so I don't have all the ppl I wanna migrate from Facebook on yet...

  • As long as I get my HitGrab games, I'm all in.

  • I just heard about Google+ a couple days ago. Is anyone looking forward to using the site?
  • I hope Google's social networking site is a huge success.   I hate everything about Facebook and hope for it's demise.

  • We're seeing the videogame market slowly being reshaped by Apple, Google and Facebook. Weteher this is a good or bad thing, I'll be there to see and curse.
  • this might be interesting, course I don't play any of facebook's games.

  • I'd love to join Google+. Unfortunately I apparently have no connections to get invites. Two parents who work in the IT field, a league of fellow CompSci majors, two friends interning at IBM and an entire Facebook friends list aren't close enough to the Google circle to get in it would seem...

Google has the fortunate position of managing Android. It might not help much, but on average the games on Android are much better than the games on Facebook. If Google could leverage some of its Android developers to make some more serious web games, they have an edge over Facebook.

For me, unless it's properly stylized, I can't stand 2D games.

  • so guessing more robot unicorn.

  • If they think they're going to take business from Facebook, of course they'll have games.

Still, Facebook is more than enough.  Way more than enough.  Too much.

  • I hope google+ kills Facebook the way Facebook killed MySpace.

  • Google and Sony should team up and develope the next PSN. The new PSN, powered bu Google, should allow to use the Android Market and have an interface with Android mobile devices. Through the new PSN, ee should be able to see our friends location through google earth. If Sony take my idea and team up with google to make a new PSN, they will surely crush and kill xbox live within a month.
  • Whoa. I hope it's good, honestly. I really like Google and just about all they've done.

I really don't feel like another social networking shift, but if it's better...

    Who knows? You know. Hah!

  • Whoa. Don't feel like another social networking shift, but google "don't do bad".

EDIT: Sorry for the double post, but the site won't let me delete one. Friendship is magic!
  • Oh, how I wish I worked at the Googleplex...
