Xenoblade Not Coming To North America

When word broke that Monolith was bringing Xenoblade to Europe, complete with an English translation, U.S. gamers were cautiously optimistic that it would lead to a North American release as well. Turns out that's probably not happening.

Along with Xenoblade, fans were petitioning Nintendo to bring The Last Story and Pandora's Tower stateside as well. Apparently there were enough fans to get Nintendo's attention, but not enough to make the publisher change its mind. Nintendo addressed the hopeful JRPG fans on Facebook, stating: "We never say 'never,' but we can confirm that there are no plans to bring these three games to the Americas at this time." Nintendo book-ended the statement with praises for its fans' enthusiasm and passion.

Well, "never say never" is still better than "never," right? Where's the Internet's blind optimism when you need it?

  • Nintendo is a bunch of tools aiming for tweens and grannys now
  • im just disappointed. nintendo really shed some light on how they see their fanbase. they obviously only care about the casual gamer. they dont care anymore about the hardcore gamer whos been with nintendo for years. i have owned every nintendo console since NES. but the way this whole thing played out secured my decision to not purchase the wiiU at launch. telling us through a tweet and facebook status? thats just disrespectful. and they didnt even give a reason. they basically said "ehh. nahhh we dont think so". skyward sword may be the last nintendo game i ever buy unless they go back to their roots and give us hardcore games for the wiiU. enough of this shovelware nonsense.
  • This is Mother 3 all over again!
  • You know, I think stateside gamers could enjoy these foreign titles.

Obscure as they may look to be, they may actually be fun!

  • I'm definitely still participating in the letter writing campaign, I feel really strongly about this. No excuse (or refusal to give information) is good enough for why these games aren't coming.

  • Maybe we can just buy it from England?
  • Yeah yeah, inc more rants about how Nintendo sucks, even though we don't have all the facts...

Nintendo is in it to make money, people need to realize that. If they don't think something will make money, they won't release it.

There are tons of other games haven't come out over from Japan, from lots of consoles, I don't know why this is any different.

So it sounds like people should be blaming Wii owners, who only buy certain types of games.

Oh well, seems gamers are pessimists by nature, not sure why...
  • "never say never" LOL
  • Nintendo cares a lot (heavy sarcasm with a dose of irked)

  • I'm very disappointed in this myself. I'd understand if this was at a point where a lot was coming for the Wii...but there isn't. I'd rather Nintendo lose a little money (if they even would, it'd debatable) than pretty much starve us of games outside of mainstays like Zelda and Kirby. It would lend credibility to their statement about wanting to win the hardcore back, anyway.

  • Another in a long line of epic fails.

  • great, another good company decides to add a retarted-ideas department.
  • Nintendo leaving their rpg fans out in the cold like this makes me skeptical of their claim that the Wii U will satisfy hardcore gamers. I understand that Nintendo is out to make money like every other company in the world, but this seems to contradict what they said about supporting their hardcore fans. If the Wii had had a decent selection of rpgs like Xenoblade, The Last Story, and Pandora's Tower, then I would have seriously considered buying one. I hope they don't withhold good rpgs when the Wii U comes out.
  • Nintendo can blow me. They need to get out of this sh*tty slump they are in and they need to return to the minds of hardcore gamers. This would be the first step.

  • This sucks

  • Nintendo: "We're going hardcore!" Gamers: "Awesome! So we can have these hardcore games, right?" Nintendo: "Umm... we meant we're going hardcore with the 3DS and Wii U next year. The Wii's still for your grandparents. *Trollface*"
  • Thanks, Nintendo, for punching the hardcore Wii owners in the face again.
