Microsoft Believes Core Gamers Will Learn To Love Kinect

by Phil Kollar on Jun 28, 2011 at 01:10 PM

Many hardcore gamers were disappointed in Microsoft's E3 2011 press conference and its focus on Kinect titles. The console manufacturer defended that choice today, saying that gamers will warm up to the new motion-sensing device when they get their hands on the core-focused titles they were showing.

Speaking with Eurogamer, Xbox senior product manager David Dennis said the negative reaction from many gamers was "as we expected." Nevertheless, he believes, "Stuff like Rise of Nightmares and Ryse...are certainly going to appeal to the core."

Dennis says the feedback from the E3 presentation this year is similar to last year:

"It's similar to last year where some of the core gaming media walked out of E3 a little skeptical about Kinect and said 'I'm never going to do that'. But a lot of them also went and bought Kinect and said 'Oh my god, I love it, I break it out when I'm having a party, I play with my girlfriend, finally I can play with my kids.' I think people have embraced Kinect and we think that a lot of what we showed at E3... whether people fully understand it now, as we open up more and more over time and explain and let people get hands-on, we think people are going to love it."

After going hands-on with titles such as Kinect Star Wars at E3, I hope Microsoft will forgive me if I remain skeptical.
