Rumor: Next Rainbow Six Title Outed...Again

by Adam Biessener on Jun 23, 2011 at 09:00 AM

Kotaku has another pile of detailed info on Ubisoft's next Rainbow Six game. The as-yet-unnamed title will reportedly put players in charge of stopping an American terrorist group from blowing up New York City – and making tough moral choices that shape the game's plot along the way.

One gameplay scenario detailed by Kotaku has the player in charge of a hapless victim strapped into an explosive vest. Players have to hold down a trigger to keep the vest from taking out his own family as he is kidnapped from his home. Afterward, the player is put in the familiar shoes of the Rainbow team as they try to keep the wired-up victim from killing hundreds of innocents on a crowded bridge.

Choosing between sending the involuntary suicide bomber off the bridge and saving the lives of all the bystanders or risking a deadlier but potentially heroic resolution to the conflict is a profound decision players are forced to make. And yet, Ubisoft reportedly hasn't decided if the morality system – which is undoubtedly difficult and expensive to implement – will make it into the game at all.

This project sounds absolutely loaded with potential. Hopefully Ubisoft has more official details to release, and soon. We'll update you the minute we get any response from the company.
