Early indications suggest that the new Sony handheld won't make the holidays, but will arrive in time to usher in the New Year.

Yesterday we had a rumor that the Vita might be headed for a November 4th release. Today, Destructoid is reporting that several readers have been quoted an arrival date for their PlayStation Vita Amazon orders hovering around the first week of January. If accurate, the Vita may have a tentative release date of December 31st, 2011.

We don't have any corroborating evidence for now, plus it's worth noting that many outlets are in the habit of setting release dates even when they haven't been confirmed by the product maker. However, it wouldn't be the first time that a purchasing outlet let the cat out of the bag on a release date.

sounds better, i wont be as broke as i would be now, because this fall is going to be brutal on the wallet will uncharted 3, resistance 3, and skyrim, and twisted metal, i hope its in january

I'm really hoping for a November release date, make it happen Sony! I'm just hoping that it's battery life will be better than the 3DS (and that's my only real complaint with Nintendo's handheld).

They should release the Vita sometime in November like November 5,10 or sometime in the middle of November.If it does come out like in January there probably just letting consumers buy all the games that come out in the fall.Because we are going to buy other games then a Vita then games for the Vita thats a lot of money for one person to spend.So it only makes sense for them to release it in January when the market cools down from all the releases in the fall.Actually January is better for Sony and us Buyers lets face it too many games come out this fall for us to have enough money for a Vita and games for it.So January=Win for Sony and Win for us.

It sounds good, because most people already are going to spend a lot by the end of the year especially with Uncharted 3, Skyrim, and a lot of other big games coming out in the end of the year.

Really, December 31, 2011, the date most online retailers put on all games and hardware when there is no set release date. And who the hell would release on December 31st anyways.

I don't think they'd do that. They would want it to release before Christmas and stuff. Unless the launch Titles aren't ready.

I feel like November would be a good time to put the handheld out. Not to many people is going to look at the PSV during January knowing the 3DS and a ton of games for it would be out soon.

december 31st is a placeholder date on Amazon. if u look at games that have not been given a release date (for example look at halo 4's amazon page), they all say december 31st.

Yeah, I have a whole slew of games and the vita pre ordered through amazon. The 12/31/11 is for sure a placeholder. You pre order the vita and the email tells you to expect it a few days into January to cover shipping time. Same thing happens with games to.

November is a much better release with Christmas coming, I can't really see why they would wait until next year from a selling standpoint.
