Just Cause Dev Expects New Console In 2014

by Jeff Marchiafava on Jun 20, 2011 at 01:42 PM

When Avalanche Studios announced that it's opening a new NYC-based branch to work on a title for "next generation platforms in 2014," people started wondering if the developer knows something the rest of us don't. Today the new studio's director explained the statement, saying that he's pretty sure we'll see new hardware from Sony or Microsoft in the next three years.

Speaking with Edge, managing director David Grijns explained what the studio expects to see from the industry in the near future. "We obviously talk to everybody, and everybody talks to us. We have some intelligence to go on that, by early 2014, we're pretty sure there'll be at least one next-generation console on the market."

Grijns went on to explain what he means by next-generation: "When we say 'next-gen' in the press release, it's really a reference to what we think the market will look like then. Anyone who says they know what the market is going to look like three years from now is just blowing smoke. Whatever happens, we feel very confident that we'll be ready for it."

So, while Avalanche can't say for sure there will be new hardware out by 2014, it's confident enough in the possibility to start preparing for it. That's fine with me, so long as the Stocklholm branch of the studio doesn't wait that long to start making a Just Cause 3.
