Sega Making New IP For Vita

by Matthew Kato on Jun 17, 2011 at 04:55 AM

Sega is one of the third-party developers who has come out loud and early with support for the PlayStation Vita, and the company's European wing says that a new IP is on the way.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Gary Dunn, managing director of Sega Europe, says that some of the development team working on the unannounced project are from the old Sega racing team, but that the title it's now working on isn't a racing game. The group has actually been operating as sort of a technology think tank for the company the past few years, and has been poking and prodding early dev kits for the Vita, Wii U, and 3DS to see what it can wring out of them. Now the group is staring a separate game development studio to bring some of its ideas to life.

First up is this Vita title, although Dunn says that they're not ruling out bringing it to other systems. Still, Dunn believes the group has really come up with a project that makes use of the handheld and its various features, including the back touch screen, gyroscope, cameras, and dual analog sticks.

Dunn says they're planning to unveil the game around Christmas, and that they hope that it can come out early in the Vita's lifecycle.
