The lights are on
Update: Crysis 2 developer Crytek has officially denied that it's making games for the next Xbox system or has any info on when Microsoft plans to announce it.
IGN has an official statement from the company that reads, in part: "Relating to the recent rumours, Crytek do not have any next generation hardware from Microsoft, nor do we know when Microsoft may announce future hardware or what that hardware will entail."
In an age when companies usual just tell you, "We don't comment on rumors or speculation," it's interesting that Crytek would spell it out so clearly. Then again, it's not like Crytek won't be working with Microsoft and Sony when those console makers start talking to developers about their next systems.
[Original Story]: Gaming website Videogamer.com has published a report stating that Microsoft is going to show its next-generation Xbox hardware at E3 2012, citing a source at Crysis 2 developer Crytek.According to a "high-ranking industry source at Crytek," Videogamer.com claims "The Crysis 2 developer says that Microsoft will announce the existence of a new Xbox within the next 12 months, hinting that a likely E3 2012 reveal. Crytek believes that Microsoft will announce and launch its new machine ahead of rival Sony, though the developer is also investing resources into next-generation PlayStation development."Although the technical specifications of the new Xbox are not final, the Crytek source told the site that it's proceeding with development using Microsoft DirectX 11. Some of DirectX 11's impressive graphical features were shown in Epic's Samaritan demo shown at this year's GDC.The story also said that Crytek UK (formerly known as Free Radical) is working on TimeSplitters 4 for next-gen consoles (including the next Xbox), using the CryEngine 3. The game will reportedly place an emphasis branching paths and "sandbox-style gameplay."

Cool, I guess.
I don't know about you guys but i'm not exactly ready for a new generation of consoles. It just sounds like Microsoft is trying to follow Nintendo's footsteps . Sort of like what Sony and Microsoft did with the motion controls and trying to attract casual gamers imo.
The only bad thing about coming out with new consoles every couple of years is that people can't keep up with it. They always want the newest one but in today's economy not people can afford to.
I do have to say when Sony had the ps2 and was able to play 1 & 2 playstation games more people were more interested in buying it. So I hope that xbox takes in consideration of all the money we have to spend in order to keep up and this new system should play the normal xbox 360 games so that they keep more of their customers.
It's just too hard to buy a whole new system and then turn around and have to buy whole new games. It just cost way to much.
atm i can't care too much mircosoft hasn't been showing me anything i want exclusives are few n far between n normaly just shooters i'll stick with nintendo and sony for now
After it launches I'm going to wait awhile before buying one...After the price drops to about $250 to $200, technical issues like red ring of death are worked out, and for a slim version...and maybe then I'll buy one. Till then I'll stick with my 360, I'm mainly a PC gamer anyway so I don't really care if a new system comes out or not, technically PC's will always be ahead of consoles.
Ugh, I don't want to buy new consoles.....
I have been waiting for a new Timesplitters game for so freaking long... But I HATE new console talk! My 360 still has life!
too early for a new xbox!
Yawn... Most likely its going to be a bigger box, maybe a different color scheme, and the ability to have better graphics, but with everything else identical to the xbox and xbox 360. microsoft lacks innovation in the field of consoles... i'm staying with nintendo
Looks potentially promising. Mind you that this is merely a rumor for now. I do believe it is now appropriate to say that it is the new era for next gen consoles. I'd like to find out more about it first though and with modern technology who knows, it might even be able to be a Wii U contender.
THey should release that day like the slim!
yes new xbox only 299.99 great.
I dont see why people spend extra money for just an upgrade which might not be nice at all.
I am personally dying for a new console, tired of looking at the PC Battlefield 3 footage with a dropped jaw.
MS PLEASE TAKE MY MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!
Cool. I think Microsoft is waiting for the others to debut their next Gen hardware. I have no doubt the new 360 will banish the other consoles to oblivion lol
please be true!!!
New Microsoft console to be announced at E3 2012...file that one under, "no duh!"
I really don't care I'll stick with my PS3 and call me when microsoft has blu-ray in their console because I'd like to know
