The lights are on
Update: Crysis 2 developer Crytek has officially denied that it's making games for the next Xbox system or has any info on when Microsoft plans to announce it.
IGN has an official statement from the company that reads, in part: "Relating to the recent rumours, Crytek do not have any next generation hardware from Microsoft, nor do we know when Microsoft may announce future hardware or what that hardware will entail."
In an age when companies usual just tell you, "We don't comment on rumors or speculation," it's interesting that Crytek would spell it out so clearly. Then again, it's not like Crytek won't be working with Microsoft and Sony when those console makers start talking to developers about their next systems.
[Original Story]: Gaming website Videogamer.com has published a report stating that Microsoft is going to show its next-generation Xbox hardware at E3 2012, citing a source at Crysis 2 developer Crytek.According to a "high-ranking industry source at Crytek," Videogamer.com claims "The Crysis 2 developer says that Microsoft will announce the existence of a new Xbox within the next 12 months, hinting that a likely E3 2012 reveal. Crytek believes that Microsoft will announce and launch its new machine ahead of rival Sony, though the developer is also investing resources into next-generation PlayStation development."Although the technical specifications of the new Xbox are not final, the Crytek source told the site that it's proceeding with development using Microsoft DirectX 11. Some of DirectX 11's impressive graphical features were shown in Epic's Samaritan demo shown at this year's GDC.The story also said that Crytek UK (formerly known as Free Radical) is working on TimeSplitters 4 for next-gen consoles (including the next Xbox), using the CryEngine 3. The game will reportedly place an emphasis branching paths and "sandbox-style gameplay."

YEEEEAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! finally a new timesplitters game!!!!!!! praise black jesus
Even if they unveil a new console in 2012, it probably wouldnt hit market until 2013.
Who cares about the rumor of a new console, Timesplitters 4 is being made. Thats WAY more important.
The samaritan demo was cool but not what I would call the sort of technological leap that warrants a new platform. Even seeing a game like Crysis 2 running at max settings on a hefty pc isn't astounding in comparison to it's console versions.
Its really good to hear that sony and MS are working on the next generation. To people who say they really dont need one. Maybe youre right now but in 2-3 they sure as hell will be. Just look at BF3 24 players on consoles vs on PCs 64 players. And thats just 2011. Think about how big the gap will be in 2013
this is the 3rd rumor. Microsoft should just tell us it's working on a new system
one of the only things that i hope they do is allow for 360 games to be played, seems like the 360 and its games seem more relevant than when they went from the xbox to the xbox 360, and they could still sell 360 games for a short time after the release of the new system.
Maybe this time they'll be forward thinking enough to put a blue-ray player in it...just in time for the next disc format to come out haha.
I won't be getting it anyway. They need to fix up fast and they better not turn the next xbox into the next wii. It's all about the casual gamer now.
I want some solid good games for next gen. I'll stick with xbox 360 for atleast 2013 depending on how many games come out.
I'm nowhere near ready for the next-generation of consoles im still enjoying this generation a whole bunch!!!! :(
it'll be a sad day when i say farewell to my 360
It's a no brainer that Microsoft and Sony will have something new by next year's E3. They could easily take away Nintendo's spotlight since everyone is so skeptical of the new console.
as long as its still for 360 and ps3 consoles i dont care about a new xbox i just want a new Timesplitters
Why the consoles now still haven't even hit their cap graphically or innovations gamewise.
