Jimmy Fallon Calls First PS3 Battlefield 3 Demo "Rad"

by Matthew Kato on Jun 17, 2011 at 06:21 AM

Jimmy Fallon and his Late Night show keeps making its mark as the go-to place to show off your triple-A franchise. Last night Fallon showed off the first PS3 footage of EA and DICE's Battlefield 3.

The demo mainly centered around the game's destructible environments and interaction with it, whether that's pulling a wounded squad mate to safety or blowing away cover to get to an enemy.

Interestingly, DICE's comment that this is the first time that the world is seeing a console version of the game brings up the recent war of words between EA CEO John Riccitiello and Activision head Bobby Kotick. At E3 Riccitiello refuted Kotick's observation that EA's Battlefield 3 footage was purely from PC, putting into question what the console versions may look like. Riccitiello came back with, "If you went to our press conference, you saw the PS3 footage and the Xbox footage. If Bobby thinks that is PC footage, he’s in real trouble."

However, DICE artist Johan Andersson's recent tweet seems to bolster the validity of Kotick's original question with one of his own. "Why would anyone expect that console would look the same as PC?" Andersson asked. "If that was the case we would have failed with the PC version." The implication here seems to be that the PC version should naturally look better.

Anyway, who cares about the horse race handicapping and what the suits are saying. Enjoy the footage.
