LA Noire Sells Nearly 1 Million In May

by Dan Ryckert on Jun 16, 2011 at 09:24 AM

Analysts expected Rockstar's LA Noire to move over a million units in the month of May, but the numbers are in and it fell slightly short. Marketwatch is reporting that the new IP sold 899,000 copies in its debut month.

The article also mentions that Red Dead Redemption (also a new IP launched in May) moved 1.5 million units in the same period last year. It's not entirely shocking that the slower-paced LA Noire didn't strike as much of a chord with mainstream audiences than Rockstar's western. Even though it fell below sales expectations, reactions from both critics and gamers have been strong thus far. With Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick referring to LA Noire as "another strong franchise" for the company, here's hoping we haven't seen the last of Rockstar's detective tale.
