Double Fine Now Has Sole Publishing Rights To Psychonauts

by Matt Helgeson on Jun 14, 2011 at 10:28 AM

Double Fine's Psychonauts is one of the most beloved cult titles of all times, and now the company is the sole owner of the publishing rights to the game.

The new came through a tweet by Double Fine senior gameplay programmer Anna Kipnis, who said:

"Omg Double Fine is now the sole publisher of Psychonauts!! If you buy it now (on Steam, for instance), the proceeds go to us! #Psychonauts"

I asked her to clarify, and she responded that Double Fine has always owned the IP, but previously the publishing rights were owned by Majesco, which originally published the game on Xbox, PS2, and PC in 2005. Now according to Kipnis, the rights have reverted back to Double Fine.

The proceeds from all future digital sales of Psychonauts (which is available on Steam and Xbox Live) will now go entirely to Double Fine. If you haven't played the game, you should,  it's about as charming as it gets. Let's hope Double Fine uses the money from sales to make a long-awaited sequel.
