Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Shows Smooth Moves At EA Conference

The hack n' slash combat of Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning looked awesome on the big screen at EA's E3 2011 press conference.

Curt Schilling took the floor to shill (hurr) for his studio's inaugural effort, talking up the talent behind the game, which was to be expected. How smooth and varied the battle looked in motion was not.

The huge number of magical and martial skills on display in a cut-together trailer showing a bunch of different combat situations was impressive. If Reckoning plays as well as it looks like it has the potential to, I could have to eat a little crow. That's a sacrifice I'd be ecstatic to make.

Ongoing liveblog featuring Jeff, Phil, and Dan and their cutting wit is here. E3 hub is here. You know what to do.

  • the magic shown off in the trailer looked awesome and some very good combat the game looks promising

  • i always enjoy a good hack n slash/rpg title, but was it gameplay footage or cinematics? (haven't seen it; i assume the former.)
  • It actually looked somewhat impressive

  • I hope this is as good as it looks, I really do.  I need a good new fantasy.

  • I'm definitely interested in this game. Considering the pedigree of the team, it seems like it'll live up to the promises.

  • as a Yankee fan, im obligated to dislike curt schilling, but this game looked very promising. here's hoping more is revealed in the next few days.

  • This game looks pretty cool. I can't wait for more info

  • This is the game that every Fable should have been. I will be keeping my eye on this game very closely.
  • Awesome!!!

  • Awesome! Fantasy: check, Swords: check, Magic: check, Awesome Armor: check! It's hard to see it failing, especially coming from EA. They're making game dumbier each year, but they still have a very high quality standard.
  • Cant Wait For This Game !!!!

  • I've been following this game closely because of R.A. Salvatore's involvement in the story. I hope it turns out as good as I hope it will.

  • Between the fiction being created by R.A. Salvatore and the art direction being handled by Todd McFarlane, I was interested when the game was announced. But now? Now I think I'll be buying this. The footage looked great to me. Fast-paced action in an RPG is certainly welcome.

  • Never heard of this game. I'll be sure to check it out.

  • It very much reminded me of Fable (I am sure others were thinking the same thing). However; it made me realize that their really are a good handful of games coming out this year, that I am seriously thinking about getting/ trying out.

Also I am a game collector, I never get rid of games, so I guess I might be a little more picky on which ones I spend my money.

Apparently this year I am going to go broke =0))

  • I have to say, I'm getting more excited about this game.

  • dame that really awomse

  • I get a rather primitive feel from the execution of combat in this game so far... but the production quality and genre are enough to keep my interest piqued... for now.

  • when i first saw this it looked like a mix between oblivion and dragon age

  • I want this to be a hit. Not just because I loved Schilling, but I just want to see someone high profile like him come in and grab a genre by the balls and pump something great like this out to everyone's shock.
