Report: Xbox Live Diamond On The Way

Rumors abound that another tier of Xbox Live will add subscription TV service.

Winrumors is reporting that an anonymous source has brought them news of some big changes on the way to Xbox Live. Specifically, Microsoft's E3 press conference is said to have an announcement regarding the new Xbox Live Diamond service, which will add IPTV services to Xbox Live users.

According to the report, as of yesterday the deal was still being negotiated, so some of the key features might not be ready to announce by Monday's briefing.

Xbox Live Diamond was also a previous program Microsoft introduced to its users in 2005. The card primarily offered retail discounts at various retailers, and the program is no longer active.

Rumors have abounded for months regarding Xbox Live's IPTV service.

If the rumor is accurate, we'll see Xbox Live Diamond launching this November.

  • This would be an awesome addition.  Really hope it's true.

  • Interesting. Let's see how it pans out, might enjoy it.

  • I'm not sure I'll have a use for it myself, but if it works for other players, good for them.
  • Let's get this one beyond US borders, no?
  • I've always like the old Xbox logo best. For their next console they need to go back to it and just call it an xbox not a 360 or 180 or 720 they're all stupid to me just Xbox

  • .. a IPTV service.. Sounds good, but.. It will be once again only be available for USA and not for Europe because its not legal :(.
  • Netflix and tivo work fine for me, but grats to anyone thats looking forward to this.

  • A service that I'll more than likely have to pay more than $60 annually? I think I'll pass.
  • I've only got Netflix going so I never really watch TV. This service would have to be relatively cheap and offer channels that I actually give a crap about such as Sci-fi and/or G4 for me to even remotely consider it. Also, I still have my Diamond card, lawl.

  • All I want is for them to redesign the gui its horrible

  • I don't watch much tv so, i don't think I would buy this. Also, leaving my xbox on for hours make my room hot so if I were going to watch something it would be on something that doesn't create as much heat. This might be useful to some people though. I wonder how much they'll be charging and if you'll be able to pay on a annual or monthly basis.

  • So... when my XBox dies I loose the thing I'd do while inside if I didn't have my XBox now? No thanks. I don't like putting so much faith in one thing, especially when that one thing has a questionable track record for durability. I don't have my phone with the people that provide my internet and TV so that if their services go down I can still contact someone.

If they want my money they'll have to give me a little more than that, or this service must be way cheaper at a competitive quality level.
  • So basically I'm going to have to pay 120 dollars to watch TV (Year Membership+ Diamond)?

  • Sounds like it could be a cool thing, I guess we will be hearing more about it at the Microsoft press conference.

  • Well, it sounds alright but I don't see what the point of it would be since most people already have TV service. I guess it could work if they offered exclusive programing, though. But in all honesty, it just sounds like another "money grab" from MS.
  • Honestly, I don't care at all about this junk that I already have in my house. I'm tired of microsoft adding useless crap the to the dashboard that it doesn't need. I have an xbox to play video games. It's more like an advertisement center than a dashboard, the original was much better. Anyways, why do I still have advertisements if im paying 60 dollars a year? Would've left xbox a long time ago but I have too many games for it already
  • no thanks there just trying to suck more money out of people and with the failure rate of 360s its not worth the extra money specialy if you have o idk cable or satalite like most ppl still do. 1st its 50 a year to play games with ppl online now this junk is why i switched to ps3 for my online while not flawless least its free
  • If the price is right, this could be an awesome addition.

  • The only change for Xbox Live that I would be interested in is allowing people to play online for free. Although, if that were the case, I'm sure a lot of people would drop to Silver unless they wanted to use Netflix. ***, Microsoft.
  • i'll just stick with gold since i have comcast
