The lights are on
Publisher 2K Games has announced when the alien invasion will be going down. The reboot of XCOM will be available March 6, 2012, on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
The game was announced last year, and after showing off a preview build, 2K has been pretty quiet about it. The game marks a departure from the series' strategy oriented roots, instead delivering a sci-fi shooter set during an alien invasion. Surprisingly enough, 2K's president is keen on the game.
“Every time I think of XCOM it gives me the chills, the kind that come from standing witness to the corruption and destruction of your world as you stand powerless to prevent it,” said 2K Games' head, Christoph Hartmann. Let's hope players aren't completely powerless to prevent this thing; that would be pretty disheartening if you had absolutely no hope of helping the humans win. Still, since this is an origin story, don't expect to completely eradicate your alien foes. You have to leave room for a few sequels, right?

After having watched the trailer and seeing the screenshots, all I have to say is: that is not X-COM. The best parts of the original series was having your fully customizable squad in a full on tactical game that made you think about your every move. This reboot requires a twitchy trigger finger, and that looks to be it.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy shooters. But this game doesn't deserve the X-COM name. It's just yet another shooter in an endless cascade of shooters.
Oh what? I thought it was supposed to be an Xbox360 exclusive. I still want it, but being multiplatform is lame.
This is such a travesty. They should have made a revamped version of the original, what real X-Com fans want. Luckily, an indie developer is doing a remake of the original with improvements to some of the archaic menus and GUI, but otherwise pure classic X-Com.
Love a good Classic!
this looks sweet but what is xcom
