The lights are on
Publisher 2K Games has announced when the alien invasion will be going down. The reboot of XCOM will be available March 6, 2012, on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
The game was announced last year, and after showing off a preview build, 2K has been pretty quiet about it. The game marks a departure from the series' strategy oriented roots, instead delivering a sci-fi shooter set during an alien invasion. Surprisingly enough, 2K's president is keen on the game.
“Every time I think of XCOM it gives me the chills, the kind that come from standing witness to the corruption and destruction of your world as you stand powerless to prevent it,” said 2K Games' head, Christoph Hartmann. Let's hope players aren't completely powerless to prevent this thing; that would be pretty disheartening if you had absolutely no hope of helping the humans win. Still, since this is an origin story, don't expect to completely eradicate your alien foes. You have to leave room for a few sequels, right?

It looks interesting im in
I reckon we'll see an impressive trailer for this fella at E3
They can keep it, I think. It looks to be more "The X-Files: The Truth is out there...in the 1950s" than actually X-Com.
Excited to learn more about this...
I just watched the trailer from last year again, looks interesting. I'll be looking for this at E3, and I'll be interested to see what they have changed or improved if anything.
xbox loses another one, woow hope its good.
Although they have not revealed much about this game I am intrigued. Hopefully they show something at E3 this year.
I honestly have never got sick of shooters, and this is a nice change from the military sub-genre. However, I'm sure the old Xcom games have a cult following, and it would be sad to see these fans left out. Who knows, 2k hasnt really clarified on the game, so they could have some sort of tactical element to it that is reminiscent of the classic installments.
All I ever see in screenshots is 50's cars and the player attacking large geometric forms.....
This could be interesting
This looks awesome but I'm betting its not going to do too well.
It certainly sounds promising. I'm keeping my eyes open for this one.
The original X-COM games still hold a special place in my heart, I don't think I ever actually finished any of them but I loved the mix of tactical battles with strategic research and upgrades...the funding was kinda punishing though.
I'm very hesitant to get my hopes up for this reboot, considering how big a departure it is from the source, but I really, really hope they manage to pull it off.
I am really curious to play this game, 1st quarter 2012 might be a pretty awesome time with this and Mass Effect 3!
